What is Spinal Decompression and How Can it Help Relieve Back Pain

what is spinal decompressionSpinal decompression. If you suffer from lower back pain, you might have heard of spinal decompression. Spinal decompression is one of the many therapies used in our DRS Protocol treatment for back pain and neck pain. Before you decide to undergo any sort of treatment for chronic pain relief, it’s always a good idea to do some research into what the treatment will consist of. In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about spinal decompression therapy, and we’ll even walk you through what you can expect from a therapy session.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression is a nonsurgical treatment that relieves back pain by taking pressure off the spinal discs. This is achieved by gently stretching the spine, which introduces negative pressure in the discs, relieving pressure. Once pressure is taken off of the discs, water and oxygen are able to move freely around the discs, which will jumpstart your body’s natural healing. Spinal Decompression Therapy has been found successful in relieving a wide variety of spinal conditions including:

  • herniated or bulging discs
  • degenerative disc disease
  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • sciatica

It is also one of the many treatment modalities used in the DRS Protocol™ which has been highly effective for the relief of chronic pain conditions.

What is The DRS Protocol™

Spinal Decompression is a very beneficial treatment option that has seen some pretty amazing results. alternative to back surgery

Finding a Successful Alternative to Surgery

If you suffer from chronic back pain, you may have tried everything to relieve the pain. You might have even been told that surgery is the only option. However, surgery is not the only treatment for back pain. Many patients have found relief with the DRS Protocol — a successful, alternative to back surgery for herniated discs, degenerative discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis and other back pain conditions.

Back Surgery

Surgery is expensive, risky, invasive, and typically involves a lengthy rehabilitation process. And, after going through this painful procedure, there are no guarantees that you’ll get relief from your pain.

Patients who have undergone back surgery report only a slight drop in pain after surgery. The need for additional surgeries is typical within 2-3 years as pain returns. Due to these factors, along with the risk of complications that can arise due to spine surgery, many patients are seeking non-surgical treatments to relieve their pain.

Non-Surgical Back Pain Relief

Fortunately, there is a non-surgical back pain treatment that has proven to be effective in the fight against chronic pain. The Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages® community has helped thousands of patients successfully relieve their back pain with the DRS Protocol™ and is one of only a handful of chiropractic clinics in the United States that has been certified to use the highly successful, treatment.

What is the DRS Protocol?

The DRS Protocol™ is a non-surgical, drug-free treatment that has been proven to reduce back pain and neck pain using completely safe, all-natural methods.

The DRS Protocol™ incorporates spinal decompression as well as multiple treatment protocols specific to each patient’s condition to remove pressure from the disc, promote the intake of water, oxygen, and nutrients to rehydrate the affected disc, and increase mobility and tissue healing while relieving the pain.

The DRS Protocol is an amazingly effective treatment that attacks the root of the problem instead of masking the problem. No surgery. No painkillers. Just results.

Are you a Candidate for the DRS Protocol?

The DRS Protocol™ is a versatile therapy for neck or back pain that promotes healing in a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Herniated Discs
  • Neck Pain
  • Low Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Failed Back Surgery Pain

If you suffer from chronic pain, find out if you’re a candidate treatment.

herniated disc treatment

Best Treatment for a Herniated Disc

According to the American Chiropractic Association, low back pain – which affects 70-85 percent of all people at some point in their lives – is the 5th most common reason for doctor’s visits and contributes to more than $50 billion in annual spending in the U.S. alone.

A Common Cause of Back Pain

A very common cause of back pain can be attributed to a herniated disc, which occurs when the rubbery cushion (disc) between two spinal vertebrae bulges outside of the spinal column and irritates the surrounding nerves.

The pain associated with herniated discs can be severe and can significantly impact the lives of people who suffer from this medical condition. With many treatment options available – some being much riskier and costlier than others – patients often find themselves overwhelmed when beginning a back pain diagnosis and treatment plan.

Herniated Disc Treatment

The most common herniated disc treatment options include:

  • Pain medication
  • Heat/ice application
  • Manual manipulation/Chiropractic Care
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Exercise/physical therapy
  • Spinal decompression / DRS Protocol
  • Spinal injections
  • Spinal surgery

Typical treatment for a herniated disc involves pain management therapy, however, many patients experience chronic low back pain that can last for months or years and they require more active treatment options to prevent long-term pain, disability, and drug dependence.

Risks of Back Surgery

When standard pain management treatment fails and active treatment is required, many doctors recommend spinal surgery to repair a herniated disc. However, the risks associated with back surgery can sometimes outweigh the benefits. According to spine-health.org, though rare, some of the risks and complications of back surgery include:

  • Dural tear (cerebrospinal fluid leak) – this occurs in 1% to 2% of these surgeries, does not change the results of surgery, but post-operatively the patient may be asked to lay recumbent for one to two days to allow the leak to seal.
  • Nerve root damage
  • Bowel/bladder incontinence
  • Bleeding
  • Infection

In addition to the surgical complication risks, spinal surgery for herniated disc repair can also result in 6 weeks or more of restricted activity, missed work, and high medical costs that can put patients into debt. As with any treatment, there is no guarantee of success with spinal surgery. 5-10% of patients will develop a herniated disc recurrence within 3 months of surgery, according to spine-health.org.

Non-surgical Herniated Disc Treatment

The risks and costs associated with back surgery have left many patients looking to alternative, less invasive treatment options for their back pain. The DRS Protocol™ which utilizes spinal decompression and other therapies customized for each patient, has become an increasingly popular treatment for back pain associated with a herniated disc as this method requires no surgery, no addictive medications, is virtually pain-free, and has a high rate of success in significantly reducing or even eliminating back pain with outpatient treatment.

“I was in so much pain in my lower back and legs when I first came to Davis Clinic of Chiropractic for treatments in May. I had difficulty walking and bending over. After a few weeks the improvement was incredible.” – Gwendalyn

The DRS Protocol™

The DRS Protocol™ (DRS stands for Decompression, Reduction, Stabilization) is described by Dr. Richard E. Busch III, Fort Wayne chiropractor and developer of the DRS Protocol™, as a non-invasive combination of spinal decompression, chiropractic manipulation, nutritional therapy, targeted exercise, and the mind-body relationship where each patient is self-assessed and treated individually to ensure optimal results.

The DRS Protocol has helped thousands of herniated disc patients regain active and pain-free lifestyles and is rapidly becoming a widely accepted alternative back pain treatment option. The non-surgical, drug-free, and pain-free DRS Protocol treatment is available in Central Florida only at the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic The Villages, Florida.

whats keeping you from getting treatmentWe’ve seen patients come in to our office who have had neck or back pain for months, sometimes even years. For one reason or another, they have simply put off seeking medical attention and have just dealt with the pain day to day, limited their activity, and have noticed a diminished quality of life.

When we asked one patient why she put off seeking help, she responded:

“At first it wasn’t that bad, it was more of a discomfort that I was able to ignore most days. As the days turned into weeks and then months, I gradually noticed a little more pain, especially if I overdid it that day. So, instead of getting help, I made sure to stop my activities when I noticed the pain or I would take breaks throughout the day. I was afraid of getting treatment, so I decided to just deal with it. Eventually I got to the point where I was barely living. I stopped my weekly walks with friends because it would aggravate my back, I had my husband do the grocery shopping for me, and I even stopped picking up my grandkids when they came to visit. I got to the point where I didn’t want to do anything because I was in pain. This was not what I imagined my life to be like. We moved to The Villages after retirement because we wanted to be able to enjoy life, however, I was no longer enjoying my life… I was missing out on it! I finally decided that I needed help – that there had to be something I could do. I was no longer afraid of getting treatment, I was more afraid of being in pain the rest of my life!”

Yes, neck and back pain treatment can be scary! Medications can be addictive, steroid injections can hurt, and surgery can have complications and takes months to recover from. And, if you’ve never been treated by a chiropractor, it can probably seem like an intimidating process.  When it comes to chiropractic care, many people are not sure what to expect. But, if you’re experiencing chronic pain, chances are, you will greatly benefit from seeking chiropractic care. For those of you that have never been to a chiropractor, you might have some questions about the process.  Hopefully, this article will help to answer some of these questions:

“I’m not sure what to Expect from Chiropractic Care.”

Don’t worry about seeing a chiropractor; chiropractic treatment is one of the safest options available for the treatment of back pain and neck pain !  Each day, over one million people in the United States are treated by a chiropractor for the relief of pain caused by an auto accident, herniated or degenerative discs , sciatica, facet syndrome, a slip and fall, or from wear and tear.If you’re not sure what to expect, here is what will usually happen at your first chiropractic visit:

1. Your doctor will get a feel for your medical and family history; along with talking about some of the symptoms you’ve been experiencing, and preexisting medical conditions, injuries, etc.

2. Your doctor will then test your basic health and focus on the problem area; testing range of motion, muscle strength, etc.

3. After your doctor has evaluated your conditions, he will diagnose your problems and recommend treatment.

“Aren’t Chiropractor’s Expensive?”

The cost of chiropractic treatments such as spinal decompression are normally less than what you would spend seeking alternative healthcare options, such as surgery, epidurals, and expensive medications.  Chiropractic treatment is a low-cost alternative to treating a wide variety of health conditions.

Plus, if you’ve been experiencing chronic pain, isn’t it worth it to not have to deal with the pain anymore?  You can’t put a price on your pain relief!

“Is a Chiropractor Really Necessary?”

If you have ever experienced chronic back or neck pain, you know that it doesn’t go away on it’s own.  You have probably tried treating it with painkillers, exercising, stretching, and even ignoring it.  But your pain keeps coming back.

The longer you put off managing the pain, the worse it will get. In most situations, Doctors have found that in severe cases, diagnosing the problem earlier would have made all the difference in the world.  In the beginning, most conditions start out as mild annoyances, and only get worse and worse until it is too late. The longer you wait, the worse your pain will get.

Non-Surgical Pain Treatment in The Villages, Florida

So what is keeping you from seeking treatment for the pain you’ve been experiencing?  Over the past decade, Dr. Jason Davis of the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages, Florida has successfully treated the pain of  thousands of patients without surgery or pain medications.  Now, you don’t have a reason to put up with the pain for another day.  Give the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic a call today at (352) 430-2121.

You Don’t Have to Accept Back Pain

Do you feel that back pain is just a part of getting older? Whereas back pain may be more evident in adults than in younger people, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they go hand-in-hand. There are some simple steps you can take in order to help rid yourself of back pain.

Natural Pain Relief

First, start by maintaining good posture. If you have a “sit down” job where you are at your desk all day, make sure your chair is ergonomically correct. In other words, make sure the chair is set up right for your height and job function. If you work on a computer most of the day, your computer screen should be at eye level. The chair should be set so that both feet are able to touch the floor.

Next, limit the amount of time you spend in bed. Studies show that people who are more active on a daily routine tend to feel less pain than those who stay in bed. Staying in bed may provide temporary relief. However, the long term effects are stiffness and soreness.

 Exercises for Back Pain Relief

Exercising is another remedy that has great side benefits. In addition to keeping your muscles limber, it will improve your blood circulation and help you maintain a healthy weight. Be careful not to overdo the exercises. Avoid bending and twisting as those activities may have been what caused the back pain to begin with. A simple walk is a good way to start your exercise routine.

Using cold and hot packs can help reduce the pain as well. If your back pain is due to an injury, use ice for the first 48 hours to reduce the swelling then switch to heat. The heat will provide a soothing effect that will comfort the muscles and provide for extended relief.

Non-Surgical Back and Neck Pain Treatment

Finally, if you have severe or chronic back pain, see a professional. Doctors, such as Dr. Jason Davis of the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic, in the Villages, Florida , specializes in the diagnoses and treatment of back pain conditions that are causing you discomfort, such as herniated discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis, and more. Dr. Davis is highly trained in treating back pain without surgery, epidurals, or other invasive treatments, including the highly effective, DRS Protocol.

Remember, just because we are getting older, does not mean that we have to accept the aches and pains that some may say are symptoms of getting older. Following these simple techniques and obtaining the advice of a professional chiropractor may be the answer to enjoying a productive and pain free lifestyle. If you are tired of living with pack pain, call the Villages Chiropractor, Dr. Jason Davis today at (352) 430-2121.

Is Bed Rest the Best Idea for Back Pain?

When we are suffering, we have a natural inclination to just go to bed and rest.  This certainly is what most people experiencing low back pain have done over the years, but new research shows this may not be the best solution.

An international organization that evaluates medical research believes that when it comes to back pain, there is very little benefit to bed rest.

Moderate Activity Gives Slightly Greater Results for Back Pain Relief

Further, the evidence they reviewed showed that people who stayed active felt some relief of their back pain, though the results were not greatly significant.

The fact is, if you are suffering from low back pain, it could be caused by many different medical reasons.  Resting your back, or keeping it active won’t cure the problem.

To really address back pain, you must first determine its medical cause.  To do this, you need to see a back pain specialist, such as The Villages Chiropractor, Dr. Jason Davis, a board certified Chiropractic Physician at The Davis Clinic of Chiropractic.

What is the Cause of Your Back Pain?

Dr. Davis can determine if your low back pain is caused by degenerative disc disease, a herniated disc, sciatica, or other reason.

The DRS Protocol Treatment for Back Pain

Many people fear that by seeing a doctor, they are going to be told to have surgery, or get a prescription for strong pain medications.  This is not likely to be the case with Dr. Davis.  Most of the low back pain patients Dr. Davis treats respond well to the DRS Protocol™.  The DRS™ Protocol is pain-free, drug free alternative to back surgery.

Back Pain Relief is a Phone Call Away!

Staying in bed won’t end your back pain.  Staying active may not help much either, but the DRS Protocol can start helping even after a few treatments.  So, the next time you’re suffering from low back pain, don’t go to bed.  Go get your phone, and call the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages, FL at (352) 430-2121. It’s the one sure thing you can do to really make your back pain go away.

Is chronic low back pain causing you to miss work?  It’s not surprising, or unusual. A recent study in the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases, said that lower back pain is the number one reason for job disabilities around the entire world.

They analyzed data from over a hundred studies in almost 50 different countries and concluded that one in ten people across the globe suffers from low back pain.  The rate was higher in Western Europe, and lower in Latin America.

It’s not surprising that billions of dollars are lost annually on missed work and back pain remedies.  Considering this expense and the huge number of people involved, the researchers feel that more research dollars should be used to study low back pain.

So what research has been done?  Over ten years ago, one doctor did conduct extensive research into back pain relief and as a result, developed the DRS Protocols™The DRS Protocols™ use modern technology and the skill and knowledge of trained doctors to relieve chronic back pain caused by herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica, and other common spinal ailments.  DRS™ is a non-surgical, drug free method that has worked for thousands of patients all over the United States to relieve the misery of chronic low back pain.

In the Central Florida region, Dr. Jason Davis of the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages, FL has both the technology and training to administer the DRS Protocols™.

Just because it’s the number one medical problem in the world, you don’t have to suffer with low back pain. Call Dr. Davis today, and find out if you are a candidate for the DRS Protocol™.  Get back to work. Get back to life.

What Causes Sciatica?

Sciatic Nerve Treatment The Villages, FLIf the Sciatic Nerve was the answer on the TV show Jeopardy, here’s what the questions would be:  What’s the longest nerve in the human body?

For some people, however, the answer might be:  What is the cause of the pain in my lower back and posterior?  Technically, one could argue if this would not be the correct response.  Yes, the pain you feel may well be coming from the Sciatic nerve, but the nerve itself is probably not the cause of the pain.  Something compressing on the nerve is the most likely problem.  Likely causes include herniated disc, degenerative disc disease, lumbar spinal stenosis, or spondylolisthesis.

Surgery is Not Your Only Treatment Option for Sciatic Pain

While these possible maladies sound serious, and they can be, don’t automatically believe the only answer is surgery. Sometimes surgery can help, but often, the pain just comes back in a few years anyway.  Drugs can mask the pain, but come with their own set of side effects and problems.

The Best Treatment for Sciatic Nerve Pain is in the villages

Now, if the Jeopardy answer is “DRS Protocol™,” the correct response is:  “What is the best treatment for Sciatic nerve pain?” Dr. Jason Davis of the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages, FL, is one of a handful of experts in the United States trained and experienced to use this surgery free, pain-free, and drug free method of treating the problems that cause your Sciatica.

Take yourself out of Jeopardy, and call Dr. Davis today.  Join the thousands of people who are living happy, normal, pain-free lives thanks the DRS Protocol™.
