What is Spinal Decompression and How Can it Help Relieve Back Pain

what is spinal decompressionSpinal decompression. If you suffer from lower back pain, you might have heard of spinal decompression. Spinal decompression is one of the many therapies used in our DRS Protocol treatment for back pain and neck pain. Before you decide to undergo any sort of treatment for chronic pain relief, it’s always a good idea to do some research into what the treatment will consist of. In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about spinal decompression therapy, and we’ll even walk you through what you can expect from a therapy session.

What is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal Decompression is a nonsurgical treatment that relieves back pain by taking pressure off the spinal discs. This is achieved by gently stretching the spine, which introduces negative pressure in the discs, relieving pressure. Once pressure is taken off of the discs, water and oxygen are able to move freely around the discs, which will jumpstart your body’s natural healing. Spinal Decompression Therapy has been found successful in relieving a wide variety of spinal conditions including:

  • herniated or bulging discs
  • degenerative disc disease
  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • sciatica

It is also one of the many treatment modalities used in the DRS Protocol™ which has been highly effective for the relief of chronic pain conditions.

Finding a Successful Alternative to Surgery

If you suffer from chronic back pain, you may have tried everything to relieve the pain. You might have even been told that surgery is the only option. However, surgery is not the only treatment for back pain. Many patients have found relief with the DRS Protocol — a successful, alternative to back surgery for herniated discs, degenerative discs, sciatica, spinal stenosis and other back pain conditions.

Back Surgery

Surgery is expensive, risky, invasive, and typically involves a lengthy rehabilitation process. And, after going through this painful procedure, there are no guarantees that you’ll get relief from your pain.

Patients who have undergone back surgery report only a slight drop in pain after surgery. The need for additional surgeries is typical within 2-3 years as pain returns. Due to these factors, along with the risk of complications that can arise due to spine surgery, many patients are seeking non-surgical treatments to relieve their pain.

Non-Surgical Back Pain Relief

Fortunately, there is a non-surgical back pain treatment that has proven to be effective in the fight against chronic pain. The Davis Clinic of Chiropractic in The Villages® community has helped thousands of patients successfully relieve their back pain with the DRS Protocol™ and is one of only a handful of chiropractic clinics in the United States that has been certified to use the highly successful, treatment.

What is the DRS Protocol?

The DRS Protocol™ is a non-surgical, drug-free treatment that has been proven to reduce back pain and neck pain using completely safe, all-natural methods.

The DRS Protocol™ incorporates spinal decompression as well as multiple treatment protocols specific to each patient’s condition to remove pressure from the disc, promote the intake of water, oxygen, and nutrients to rehydrate the affected disc, and increase mobility and tissue healing while relieving the pain.

The DRS Protocol is an amazingly effective treatment that attacks the root of the problem instead of masking the problem. No surgery. No painkillers. Just results.

Are you a Candidate for the DRS Protocol?

The DRS Protocol™ is a versatile therapy for neck or back pain that promotes healing in a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Herniated Discs
  • Neck Pain
  • Low Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Failed Back Surgery Pain

Dr. Arnold Weil, M.D., the clinical assistant professor of rehabilitation medicine at Emory University, a prominent school of medicine in Atlanta, GA, is quoted in the July/August 2011 issue of AARP magazine as follows:  “Probably less than five percent of all back pain requires surgery.”

This is why back surgery is listed as one of the “Four Surgeries to Avoid” by the American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP.  Specifically, the article advises you to avoid surgery known as “Complex Spinal Fusion for Stenosis.”  Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the open spaces within your spine, which puts pressure on your spinal cord and the nerves that travel through your spine. This occurs most often in the neck and lower back.

The article summarizes the research of Richard Deyo, M. D., a professor of medicine at Oregon Health and Science University.  Dr. Deyo studied 30,000 medical records of patients who had surgery for spinal stenosis and concluded those who had fusion surgery seemed to find no more relief from chronic back pain that those who had much less invasive procedures.  Many experts have pointed out the high failure rate of back surgery.  When you fuse vertebrae, more stress is put on adjacent vertebrae.  Eventually, you’re right back where you started.

So, if according to the AARP, fewer than five percent of back pain sufferers require back surgery, what less invasive procedures are available?  Doctor Jason Davis, DC, of the Davis Clinic of Chiropractic, has had tremendous success with a process called the DRS Protocol™.  According to Dr. Davis, “DRS™ is non-surgical, drug free and pain-free.  You can actually start feeling better after only a few treatments.”

Dr. Davis is only one of a handful of doctors in the country who has been trained on the DRS Protocols™, and regularly uses them in his practice in The Villages, FL.  DRS™ will work for low back pain, as well as for neck pain.

Could Your Wallet be the Cause of Your Back Pain?

Could your wallet be the cause of your back pain?

Pickpockets call men’s back pockets the “sucker pocket.”  This, according to Judy Artunian of the Chicago Tribune, is because it’s the easiest pocket for them to pick, and the one most likely to contain a man’s wallet.  Most men’s fashion magazines today also warn against keeping your wallet in your back pocket, simply because it doesn’t look right from a fashion stand point.  So why would a respected Chiropractor, like Dr. Jason Davis also warn men not to keep their wallets in their back pockets?  Because sitting on your wallet is a common cause for chronic low back pain.

Years of Sitting on Your Wallet Could Misalign Your Spine and Put Pressure on the Nerves

Paying too much for something can cause an imaginary pain in your wallet, but sitting on it all day at work, or while driving, can cause real pain caused by real medical issues. Sitting on your wallet sets off a kind of chain reaction of events that ends up badly. One common result is sciatic nerve pain, which, if you’ve had, you know can keep you off you feet and off work for days, months, or even years! If left untreated, you can cause permanent damage to the nerve.

Perhaps you are suffering from chronic back pain caused by herniated or degenerative discs but you have not sought treatment.  The reason you may be holding back is a fear you’ll be told you need surgery.

The North American Spine Society (NASS), performed a study of patients and doctors to learn why many back pain sufferers wait weeks longer than they should to seek help.  The big reason was the fear of a diagnosis for back surgery.

This same study found another amazing fact:  90 percent of people with back pain don’t need surgery.  Dr. Jason Davis of the Davis Spine Insitute in The Villages, FL, agrees with that idea.

“Our use of theDRS Protocol™ eliminates the need for surgery for most of our patients.  DRS™ is clearly a pain free, drug free, alternative to surgery.”

Don’t fear being told you need surgery.  Get the help you need to take back your life and live pain free.
